Midnight
Date
unknown
In
the middle of a moonless night,
I
heard a disconcerting sound,
The
noisy clinking of a chain
And
the howl of a hound.
The
light crunching of rice paper,
Just
one single heartbeat,
And
the patter of something on the roof,
Is
it a wonder I can’t sleep?
Then
smell of sweet flowers,
Overpowered
by sweet raspberry,
I
wondered why I was frightened,
But
I decided to be cautious and wary.
The
door opened slowly, quietly,
Then
something slithered in,
Dark—and—shiny,
Something
tall and foreign.
It
made a horrendous screech
As
it slide across the floor
Like
a rock in a river,
It
stood alone in front of the door.
