The Rope

The Rope
12/9/2015

Life is a rope, long and harsh
      That we hang on,
             cling to,
                     dangling
                          as we fall,
                                spinning
                                      and twirling
                         as we tumble down
                    the  cliff side
               bouncing
         and rebounding
as we fall toward the bottom.
Sometimes
the rope gets stuck
and you dangle
   before the rope
        untangles
              and you free fall
                        once more.
                              Sometimes
                              You
                              Fall
                             Straight
                             To
                             The
                             Bottom
                         But
                     Chances are
                 It takes some time
             and you end up
          swirling
                 and twirling
                          and you rebound
                                  before you
                                           finally
                                                reach
                                                   the rock
                                             hard
                                        bottom.
                                    But--
                           look at it this way.
                    No matter how you
              reach
      the bottom
You still have the rope.

Just Laugh

Just Laugh
2/26/2015

It is a common problem that
People put you down for who or what you are—
But don’t let them.
Just laugh.
Just laugh at their unhappiness
For they are choosing to live in a way that causes pain
And you do not have to let them infect your life
With negativity.
If you decide to argue back instead of walk away,
You only perpetuate the cycle of hate.

If they say, “Because you’re a girl,”
Laugh and say—
“And how is that a bad thing?”
If they say “Because you’re a man,”
Laugh and say—
“Well I can be who I want because that doesn’t define me.”
If they say, “Because you’re race is x,”
Laugh and say—
“My skin does not make me who I am.”

If they mock you for your gender or your sexuality
Laugh and say—
“You don’t know true love, do you?”
If they dislike you because you are a tourist
Laugh and say—
“How else would you make your money if we did not spend so much here?”
If they mock you for religion or your lack there of
Laugh and say—
“I can believe what I want to
It does not affect you.”
If they hate you because you are fat
Laugh and say—
“At least I can enjoy my food,”
And if they hate you because you are thin (unless you are anorexic which is a bad thing)
Laugh and say—
“It’s not my fault I have good genes.”
If they mock you for your clothes
Laugh and say—
“I dress how I deem fit.”

The list goes on.

People like to mock—and hate—and berate,
But don’t let it blacken your soul—
Just laugh,
Because they are unhappy with themselves
And they want you to be
Unhappy too.
But if you can just laugh—
If you can throw that joy back in their face
You can let yourself stay happy
And maybe they will realize that they are unhappy
And fix it.
If not—
That is not a problem for you to fix.
That life is theirs,
And if they want to be unhappy
Because of someone else’s life—
The choice is theirs.
Let them.
But your life is yours.
You must choose to be happy
And fight back against all the darkness—
The negativity—
The anger and the pain—
And the offensive behavior.
Don’t let it get to you.
Just laugh
And be happy—
And be who you want to be—
The choice is yours.
Make the one that’s best for you
And be happy—
Just laugh.

My Own Song of Myself

My Own Song of Myself
11/28/12

I sing a song, a song of myself
A song that few shall ever hear.
As I sing I sit and stare
And watch solemn specter’s dance near.
The specter’s seldom stop and watch and look
To see what round them stands.
Instead they swiftly stalk away
And in their pockets stuff their hands.
But in such moments they sadly miss
What around them still occurs,
They miss the things that matter most,
Parts of life’s undeniable quirks.
They miss the sky, so blue, so calm
They don’t see the coming storm.
A squirrel that scampers ‘cross their path
Is a thing they often scorn.
But in this they miss his fluffy tail,
The curiosity on his face,
They often miss his spectacular fur
And a squirrel’s own stylish grace.
When stopping to see the sun shine bright
And the flower’s colors that I hold so dear,
I often have time to contemplate
All of life’s irrational fears.
An oh so important test begins to seem
Not such a bad thing,
Grades so commonly become escalated,
Until all else in life becomes extinct.
Society ceases to matter when
All one worries about is their grades,
But one must come to understand
That there is no need to be afraid.
Of course grades are important
But they shouldn’t become ones whole life,
Everyone needs time to stop and see
And move past life’s little strife’s.
My favorite thing that calms me down
Is to sit outside and see
What transpires between people
And how they react to me.
I find it sad, when I watch
And find people no longer care
About what really matters,
What is already right there.
People miss the birds in flight,
The sun dancing on the window panes,
They miss the silent songs the wind sings,
They miss the flowers natural paint,
They miss the green grass underfoot,
And the bugs that scatter across the ground,
They miss the tiny things in life
That happen all around.

Every time I stop and stare
And look at what happens around me,
I hope that one day I may finally find
Another who may truly see.
